Aldo Finzi
Aldo Finzi (www.aldo-finzi.com) was born in Milan on February 4th in 1897 from an old Jewish family in which love for music was a tradition: he graduated in law from the Pavia University but in the meanwhile he was graduating from the Conservatorium in composition as an external candidate at the St. Cecilia Academy in Rome.
He quickly reached success and fame among young Italian musicians: at the age of 24, he had become one of the authors whom operas were published by Ricordi Editions.
In 1937 the Scala Theatre announced a contest for a brand new opera which would have took place in the following season: Finzi took part of it with his “La serenata al vento”, published nowadays always by Ricordi/Universal; among members of the examining commission there was Pick Mangiagalli, who moved close to Finzi to give advance notice of the obtained victory in the contest. The official announcement, waited for spring of 1938, did not come because of the racial laws and in this way the Finzi’s consecration among the world most famous musicians vanished.
To carry on he settled for working anonymously or under other people’s name: a denunciation ensured Italian SS to go to the accommodation where his son hid himself to seek Maestro Aldo Finzi, actually hidden somewhere else; to avoid his son accommodation search and arrest, Maestro gave spontaneously himself up to SS: he died under an alias on February 7th 1945.
The beautiful Aldo Finzi’s music has been played by now almost all over Europe, in addition to the USA, Canada, Panama, Mexico, Israel, Japan and Australia.
12.17.2017: a date one cannot miss giving importance to an unremembered Italian genius – and now the aim of a revival large-scale project with ACE Agency – and definitively promote his music all over the world through this concert participation in the place we can consider the whole world music temple.
